John Goodman, 72, is recovering after sustaining a hip injury while filming director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest project, a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE.

“John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” the spokesperson stated. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”

Upcoming Film and Star-Studded Cast

The untitled film, currently in production at Pinewood Studios in England, is set for release on October 2, 2026. The project also stars Tom Cruise, Jesse Plemons, and Riz Ahmed.

According to IMDb, the movie follows “the most powerful man in the world” who “causes a disaster and embarks on a mission to prove that he is the savior of humanity.”

Goodman’s Recent Challenges and Future Projects

In addition to recovering from his injury, Goodman has faced other challenges this year, including the loss of his Pacific Palisades home in a fire. Despite these setbacks, he remains active in Hollywood, with upcoming projects such as Chili Finger and Smurfs in preproduction.

Iñárritu’s Legacy in Filmmaking

Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for critically acclaimed films like 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Birdman (2014), and The Revenant (2015), has won multiple prestigious awards, including Oscars, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs.

Production on the film is set to resume next week, with Goodman expected to make a full recovery.
