Brooks & Dunn Gear Up for Their Neon Moon Tour – But Their Focus Extends Beyond the Stage (Exclusive)

Brooks & Dunn are set to hit the road once again in 2025, but touring isn’t the only thing on their minds. As they prepare to launch their Neon Moon Tour on March 13 in Lubbock, Texas, the legendary country duo is also reflecting on their passion for songwriting and the continued evolution of their music.

BROOKS & DUNN AWARDED VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR” AT 58TH ANNUAL CMA AWARDS, ON THE HEELS OF BELOVED NEW ALBUM REBOOT II

A Resurgence and a Surprise Win

2024 was a standout year for the best-selling country duo. Not only did Brooks & Dunn experience a resurgence thanks to their surprise win for Vocal Duo of the Year at the CMA Awards, but their classic songs found new life through the release of REBOOT II.

Initially, a follow-up to their successful 2019 album REBOOT—which featured collaborations with artists like Kane Brown, Thomas Rhett, and Cody Johnson—wasn’t in the plans. “We had no plans of doing it again,” Kix Brooks, 69, told PEOPLE. “We just figured, ‘That was cool, it was successful, I’m glad it worked,’ and that was about it.”

However, the success of REBOOT, particularly the viral popularity of Neon Moon with Kacey Musgraves, reignited the conversation. When it came time to create REBOOT II, Brooks & Dunn decided to push the creative boundaries even further.

A New Approach to Old Classics

“This time, we got in the studio and turned them loose,” said Ronnie Dunn, 71. Unlike the first REBOOT album, where the duo had more creative input, this time they let the featured artists take full control. “You pick your song, you take the approach, and we’ll go with you wherever you want to go. No rules.”

This open-minded approach led to a wildly diverse record. Marcus King brought his own band to record Rock My World (Little Country Girl), and Jelly Roll turned Believe into a cinematic production with a 70-piece orchestra and a 30-person choir.

“It was like a seminar of unchained creativity,” Brooks said. “We just had to hang on, jump in, and come prepared for anything.”

One of the biggest surprises came from Megan Moroney’s rendition of Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You.

“[Megan] toured with us for two years, and we never heard that voice come out of her—that sultry, sexy voice,” Brooks recalled. “It felt like she’d been up on a three-day bender smoking Camel cigarettes.”

Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen, who recorded Neon Moon, opted for a more traditional approach. “He said he didn’t want to mess with it,” Brooks noted. “I guess in his opinion, it was already done.”

Looking Beyond Touring – A Return to Songwriting

As Brooks & Dunn gear up for the Neon Moon Tour, they are also looking ahead to what’s next.

“We have to stop and remind ourselves that we’re songwriters,” Dunn said. “We need to play with that a little bit.”

While the duo remains committed to their live performances, 2025 could also see them diving deeper into their songwriting roots and exploring new creative projects.

For now, fans can look forward to seeing them on stage as they bring their timeless hits and REBOOT II collaborations to audiences nationwide.
